At Breathing Room, you will find a supportive, safe and non-judgemental space to develop awareness, wellbeing and growth.
What to expect
At Breathing Room we offer face-to-face, telephone and video appointments.
Sessions typically run for 50- 60 minutes, the frequency that you meet with your psychologist and length of treatment is dependent on the issues being discussed and mutual availability. Your psychologist will talk you through an evidence-based treatment plan as you talk through the presenting problems and develop a shared understanding of what will be helpful over the first few sessions.
The first session or two generally focuses on an initial assessment, where your psychologist will ask lots of questions about who you are and what’s currently happening, as well as questions about your family history, medical and developmental history, and current supports amongst other areas of your life to develop a rich and comprehensive picture of who you are. This information helps your psychologist develop an individualised treatment plan that they can then share with you, and continue to develop with you collaboratively.
The therapeutic journey isn’t linear most people will have ups and downs along the way, as we all do in life. We focus on progress and practice to help you develop new insights and skills to help you reach your therapy goals. Working with a psychologist is like working with a personal trainer, it takes time, dedication, and practising new skills outside of your scheduled sessions to make it easier for you to reach your goals. Like building fitness, it can feel hard at first but will become easier overtime.
